I Choose Therefore I Crap

13 04 2008

Intro

The About page is normally supposed to explain the existence of the blog. However, I thought I’d dedicate another post to it.

I don’t know why people blog and honestly, I don’t care. It could be to stay connected, to feel good about oneself, to contribute some information or maybe even earn a bit through paid reviews and thing like that. There are also people (even if few in number) who want to give vent to their artistic side. Believe me, I’ve read a few blogs, that has left me spell bound. The creativity of these people (even if few in number) is truly phenomenal. However, posts are few.

Different people have different reasons to blog. Sure enough, they have the time and they have a reason to blog. I  am not going to be ill mannered by going and asking people why they blog. This post is to ward off other ill mannered people from asking me the same.

Why Crap ?

For me, blogging is an outlet where I discuss the silliest of things. Crap, if you like to call it that. If you have observed, I never discuss important things or things that actually matter to me. This is for two reasons, first being the fact that I like to keep my writing lighthearted and second being the fact that I don’t really care what other people think and think I think about issues I actually care about. (Read that again, if you didn’t get it) Last thing I want is people making judgements and telling me that I should see things from their perspective. Why on earth would I want do that ? I loathe people who do that.

Crap

Matter Matters ?

I know lots of people think blogs should have a purpose and a motive behind them and maybe people who think that are right afterall. However, I blog when I have completed the important things that need my attention. :) It’s just that I never blog about them. This is a place where I write to give myself a break from other work. I do write about things that matter to me. But not here. :)

Outro

Oh, damn, that sounded a little serious. Got to get back to writing silly stuff.

Google Chat Emoticons

12 04 2008

I don’t use Gtalk. I use the one that’s integrated with my mail instead. I use Skype to make calls anyway and use Yahoo Messenger for my Instant Messagingneeds. So there’s no point in installing yet another software. The Gmail, Gtalk integration is pretty cool, even if it can be annoying at times. :D

I was pleasantly surprised to see two new sets of emoticons or smileys on the integrated Gtalk today. For people who use smileys quite a bit, like me for instance, this is a welcome change.

This is how they look:

Catching up to do.

I’ve been wanting to write a few posts, but have been tied down by some work or another. Now that I have a weekend to myself, maybe I’ll do a bit of blogging. :)

Hand Stitched Custom Phone Cover - SE K810i

25 03 2008

Well, this is the height of joblessness. I asked a couple of stores if they had a cover that would fit my phone and all of them seemed to have only those leather covers which serves no purpose really. (And I hate it when people put that pouch through their belts. Not very convenient if you ask me.) Thankfully, most of my trousers have a cell phone pouch inside the pocket so that your phone doesn’t fall out.

I am sure it’s available in some store somewhere. Maybe I should check out a few cell phone stores and also Odyssey and Mercy.

In the meantime , I thought I needed a cover for now. So I decided to make my own cover. After a bit of thinking over what material to use, I narrowed down to the cloth you get with your shades/spectacles. These are really soft and hence will not scratch you phone. I have a couple of them that came with my shades, but I was not going to use them. So I decided to go purchase it from a shop. Read about that in my next post.

Hand stitched Cell Phone Cover:

Firstly, I know it’s not great. Maybe it’s not even good. So save the ‘it looks lame’ comments.

Anyway, here’s the end product. I stitched it myself (I learnt stitching when I was in boarding school. :) )  and intentionally used a thread colour that stood out. (I did have the same matching shade of yellow thread as well. )  I wanted to use twine actually, but then didn’t find a big enough needle at home.

Cell Phone Pouch-01

Other Future Refinements:

Right now this is meant to protect the phone when it’s not in use from dust and scratches. Later on, I think I’ll add a window for the screen, the buttons and the camera. That way I can have it permanently on. Or, wait I could actually buy one by then. :D

Last Day in College (Everything Official About It)

10 03 2008

Well, I never write posts related to college normally. There are quite a few posts on AU, but not on college. I think it’s time to make an exception. Tomorrow would be the last working day (officially) of my 4 year Engineering course. Yea, we will later have to go for the exams and stuff. But no more sitting in the classroom. (We haven’t had classes for a while now) It’s hard to think straight in times like this. There’s always a mix of happiness and sadness (even if only a bit) involved.

Here’s probably a list of things ill miss doing:

  • Getting up in the morning and mindlessly running to the bus stop at around 7:20 A.M. I have always been in a good route. The bus from Besant Nagar used to be excellent in the first few semesters. Then it got crowded and to add to that OMR road construction began.I remember days when I had to run with shoes in hand :) just so that I didn’t miss the bus. You see, I have this policy wherein I stay home if I miss the bus. Once missed a model exam for it and I came out clean when asked about it. (To the shock and astonishment of the staff in-charge.) I still remember taking a private bus in first year, not knowing the bus stop name and buying a ticket for Mahabalipuram. :) I somehow managed to get down after seeing the college. Unfortunately the next stop was near Hindustan college and I had to walk all the way to college, Erwin Kreysig in one hand and drafter/ED charts in another. I did make it on time though. Decided to never take private buses after that.
  • Breakfasts in college mess:As bad as the college food is, my palette is used to it. I mean, I have been eating there for four years now. (Yea, I know I have no taste in food. :) ) It’s not the food I will miss. It will be the discussions we had over breakfast. But then things changed as we progressed through years. From being an absolutely wonderful place with very little crowd where one could have discussions in the first year, to a crowded place in the second where one had to hunt for stools to using paper plates and all that in the third. I still like the well lit portion of the mess closest to the basketball court. Abhi used to come to the mess back then. So did a few seniors. (Rahul, Varun, Pankaj et all)
  • Lunch: Lunch (by lunch I mean the recess and not the food itself) used to again be good till they made two slots out of it. This way, I no longer got to see the guys who I normally had lunch with. :( It was alright for a while till my class dayscholars came along. Then that changed too. They took the smart option and opted out. :D And I was stuck alone.
  • There are a few more things I’ll miss. Not going to put everything up here though. :P

The worst thing about college is epitomised best by the boys’ mess probably, from a bright, well lit and airy place, it got duller and duller and more cramped.  I used to enjoy my first few semesters in college. It used to be kinda pleasant. I had come to terms with the fact that I had done abysmally badly in my board exams and that I would make best use of what I had. And I think semesters 1-5 were OK with semester 6 being bearable. The last year or so though, has been pathetic with a lame #uck for principal.

Things were OK for a while, before they started introducing the worst of schemes. Had some happy times, but I am just happy to be on the way out.

YARO - Yet Another Rip Off

3 03 2008

Well, we know this for a while. Anu Malik is to Hindi what Deva is to Tamil. They shamelessly copy songs from English and not even ones that we would not have heard of. Whether they think the audience is so intellectually dull that it will go un-noticed or whether they are intellectually dull, is something that needs to debated on. (Well, actually not. I guess it’s both.)

So, I was not all that surprised when X* showed me a recorded song on mobile. Well, the recording was not clear and I have not heard the song before. The song was from a Tamil movie, which I later found to be Kadhalil Vizhunthen. The music director is one Vijay Antony. I am being very honest here. I have neither heard of this bloke nor the movie. So what’s the big deal about all this ? Well, X* tells me this song is lifted from some popular English track he has heard before, but is not sure which one. Meanwhile, X* had trouble finding out which movie this song belonged to. He had recorded it on his mobile from a radio nearby I guess. X* however later on determinedly found out the song, the movie name and the music director, which I have written here.

Now, the Song is called Unakkena Naan. The female singer is Ramya and guess who lends the male voice ? The plagiarist himself. (Well, I am hoping he didn’t take permission/rights from the original artiste, in calling him that.)

Here’s the Song for you:

Unakkena Naan

I am going to have a quiz here and ask people to name the real song. (You should note here that X* was also successful in finding the actual song by the original artiste. To be honest again, it’s a song I have not heard of. The artist I have heard of.) We even played the two songs together (on two players) and they seemed to sync for most part. (For the originality of the last 5 odd seconds, I give credit to the music director.)

The Original Song:

Shiva and Marc, both got the original song and the artiste right. It is Unfaithful by Rihanna. To think he copied straight form that song, pity.

Vijay Antony’s Site:

Vijay Antony

What’s comic about the whole issue is, this is what his Biography on his site had to say:

Vijay Antony-the man who impels to do something different repeatedly is back again with his best foot forward to ascertain his note-worthy versatility and uniqueness in whatever he does.

Other note-worthy things about his website,

  • It says under construction on the home page, yet has almost all the data
  • There’s an annoying song playing on the background and there’s no way to turn the music OFF. Grrr…

ROFL.

Note: X*’s name has been withheld on request. ;)
