Helmet Theft/Exchange

with 10 comments

This happened to me today. I had gone shopping and left my helmet in the place earmarked for that. After shopping when I came back to find my helmet, I could not find it. Instead on the rack I found another helmet of the same brand, only much older and uglier. (His also had some ugly stuff written on the back and had tinted glass) Now, on the way back home I did not even want to wear this helmet. The shopkeeper did not want to take responsibility either and had not noticed who took the helmet. (Wow!!)

Formula HP

Now whether the person mistook it for his helmet by accident or purposely took my new helmet, I do not know. I however left my phone number with the shopkeeper just in case this guy comes along and honestly returns the helmet.

I have decided that the person who took my helmet is either (a) really dumb for having mistaken my new helmet for his old helmet (I would say brain dead if he does not return the helmet) or he is (b) a proper thief (I shall use better and filthier language if I am  not contacted in a few days)

Ametors Quiz – Final Round Questions

with 4 comments

 Ametors

I am presenting questions of what was supposed to be the first round in the IT departments quiz (General Trivia). Some of these questions may have been modified later or even removed. It is equally possible that other questions were added. Most of the questions, I am sure you have seen before.(if you were there,on the day of the symposium that is.)

IT Quiz-Finals-Round 01

(I thought of posting it as ORK-04, but then these questions do not qualify for online quizzes and people have already seen the questions. So ORK 04 waits for now.)

There are two slides where audio is required. Since my blog does not support audio files, I am presenting the same for downloads.

Audio Files

I shall be uploading the slides with the answers pretty soon too. (Not yet, just in case people are looking at these questions for the first time.) Once everything is uploaded, you can download them onto the same folder and they should work fine. (The hyperlinks I mean)

P.S: Thanks to Abhi for the questions.

Globalisation Redefined

without comments

Globe

Vivek sent me this SMS. I liked it a bit and hence posting it here. It’s not great though.

Globalisation:

Diana’s death. An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend (Dodi-Al Fayed) in a German car (Mercedes Benz S280) driven by a Dutch driver(Henri Paul)  in a French tunnel (Pont d’Alma road) while being chased by Italian press reporters on Japanese bikes, treated by Portuguese doctor with Brazilian medicine. This SMS was written by an Indian on a Chinese phone smuggled by a Pakistani via. Nepal. Now, this is called Globalisation.

Matthew Hayden – An Obnoxious Criminal Seed

without comments

Matt Hayden-01

(Pic: Hayden has his middle stick uprooted. OUCH!!)

That’s right. Matthew Hayden is an obnoxious Criminal seed. Son or Grandson or Great-grandson to some of the most notorious rapists and murderers in Britain who were dumped in Australia. Here, he comments about Harbhajan being an obnoxious little weed. Much better than your lineage mate.

The 37 year old is almost a grandpa in cricket circles. Aren’t the old supposed to be wise ? Grow up Matty.

Wiki says: Hayden is a devout Roman Catholic and says “When I’m in trouble, I ask: ‘What would Christ do?’”

I say: Hayden is a devout sledger and says “When I’m in trouble, I ask: “How do I target Bhajji and make him look bad?’ “

Now, stop all this shit and play cricket!! Now, wait. He should be banned from cricket in my opinion. Not because of the nature of his comments here. But because, this has been going on forever now. He should atleast not be allowed to play in IPL on Indian soil after having the balls to make such remarks, that too in the media.

Lallu Sabha

with 9 comments

Laloo

Not to be confused with “Lollu Sabha”(which I have never seen by the way. It’s just that all my classmates discuss it every lunch break. :) ), this post is about Laloo Prasad Yadav’s stint at the Lok Sabha as Railway Minister.

I know a lot of people hate Laloo as a politician. Maybe even I dislike him. He epitomises everything that’s wrong with Indian politics. People even hold him responsible for the poor state of things and underdevelopment (what ? what development) in Bihar. Agreed, he didn’t do much good as the Chief Minister of Bihar.

Indian Railways

But as Railway Minister, he has turned things around. Incidentally another Chief Minister (and also currently) of Bihar was earlier Railway Minister – Nitish Kumar. Nitish Kumar comes across as a honest politician and a decent man. However, under his tenure as RM, the Railways didn’t see much progress or profits.

What’s remarkable about Laloo is the way he has turned around the Railways after having failed miserably with his state. Maybe this goes to show that if you take the power away from a corrupt politicians and ask him only to make policies/decisions, without them playing a role in money matters, they actually might do good. (If you remember, power corrupts. So taking away power should work)

I happened to be watching the news yesterday and Laloo was on TV announcing the various new schemes under the Railway Budget. Some of them sounded good to me. I am no expert on budgets, but I can probably tell the difference between good reforms and the not so good ones. Among notable changes were, introduction of Smart Cards, free monthly season tickets for female students , new trains…etc. Now, one only hopes all the other Government departments will take cue and come up with meaningful reforms. Lets hope P.Chidambaram also has a few tricks up his sleeve.

Read more about Laloo here.

Anna University – Photocopy-cum-Revaluation

with 19 comments

I saw a couple of photocopies of answer scripts of people who had got arrears this semester. To know a bit about AU’s revaluation/photocopy schemes, click here  Revaluation

Funny thing is, you have to pay 300 Rupees extra for photocopying at most 42 sides of your answer scripts. The same would cost less than 20 Rupees in any other “xerox” shop. (Also, note that the exam fee for one subject is 100 rupees.) Fancy photocopiers, these AU people should have considering it’s not even colour xerox. (Comments explaining why they charge us 300 rupees, will be deleted  :D  )

Xerox

One of the answer papers read something like this:

2marks:

01    0;02    0;03    0;04    0;05    0;06    0;07    o;08    0;09    0;10    0

16 marks

01    02;02    03;03    05;04    02;05    00

Wow, what a wonderful way to evaluate a paper. And I can personally vouch that atleast four 2 mark answers were perfectly right and some of the 16 marks questions deserved atleast 10 marks. Why AU examiners go crazy sometimes is inexplicable. And it’s not an isolated case either. One or two of my other friends also said that they were hard done by the results.

Lawyers reading this post may respond. :) We want to sue AU.

P.S: I wish I could put up the scanned copy of the paper I described here, but I don’t have a scanner. So, buy me a scanner. :)

Just in case you are also interested, the exam dates have been announced. I am putting it up here so that you save yourself a visit to the AU site. (They have changed the look by the way. Can’t say it looks any better though.)

ORK – 03 Quiz

with 2 comments

ORK 01 and 02 were sometime in the distant past. Both got lukewarm responses. You can check the ORK page for list of Winners.  In keeping with tradition, I am asking just 2 questions. However, you shall find the two at-least a bit challenging. So, it should keep you occupied.

Answers can be mailed to karthik3685@yahoo.com, with the subject stating “ORK-03 Answers” latest by the 4th of March.

1) Connect the 6 pictures here and Put Fundaes

Happy quizzing.

The comments will be opened after the answering session closes.

P.S: Some people have reported problems with the images. However, on checking the code, I found it alright. The problem maybe with the theme or something. Hard to say. In any event, pictures of Gauthami to Aamir Khan are not supposed to repeat themselves in the second question. (WordPress screwed something. I had to re-upload the pics :( Some bug. And it wasn’t the same pic as Sundar claimed ;) Those were pics I uploaded earlier and deleted.)

I am also uploading a power point slide just in case WordPress decides to screw the post again. You can download/view the same here

Playing with themes

with 7 comments

Well, I think I take a look at my blog at-least once a day be it for writing a post or to respond to other peoples’ comments. And I am tired of looking at the same theme everyday. The theme I was using was probably not as good as I wanted it to be. But having said that, there are very few “flexible width” (you will notice that with “fixed width” themes, the pictures get cropped if they are too big for the column)themes to choose from and the one I was using was in my opinions the best one I could have chosen. (I am not complaining here. Merely stating the fact)

So, I am going to experiment with a few themes for a while. However, during this period, some of the pictures on my blog will appear chopped. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I don’t suppose I can sit and change all the pictures from all of my previous posts to thumbnails. (Especially since I might revert back to the old theme.) If you think a certain theme is better than the theme I was previously using,(Rubric) then you are welcome to comment. Do include the theme name in your comments. That way, Ill know which theme is good.

Themes Used:

Previously: Rubric

Current01: ChaoticSoul

Management Lessons

with 3 comments

Shyam , my good friend, sent me the link to this site and I kinda enjoyed it. So I am putting it up here for other people to enjoy.

Lesson Number One

Rabbit

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, ” Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?”

The crow answered: “Sure, why not.”

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Management Lesson: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson Number Two

Turkey

A turkey was chatting with a bull.

“I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree, “sighed the turkey, “but, I haven’t got the energy. “Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?” replied the bull. “They’re packed with nutrients.”

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. the next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch, Finally after a fortnight, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Management Lesson: Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there.

Lesson Number Three

 BOSS

(BOSS)

When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be Boss. The brain said, “I should be Boss because I control the whole body’s response and functions.”

The feet said, “We should be Boss as we carry the brain about and get him where he wants to go.” The hands said, “We should be the Boss because we do all the work and earn all the money.” And so it went on with the heart, the lungs and the eyes until finally the asshole spoke up.

All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss. So the asshole went on a strike, blocked itself up and refused to work. Within a short time the eyes became crossed, the hands clenched, the feet twitched, the heart and lungs began to panic and the brain fevered. Eventually they all decided that the asshole should be the Boss,  so the motion was passed.

All the other parts did all the work while the Boss just sat and passed out the shit!

Management Lesson: You don’t need brains to be Boss, any asshole will do!

Lesson Number Four

Cow

A little bird was flying south for winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in a pile of cow dung, it began to realise how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came out to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him!

Management Lesson:

1. Not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy

2. Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.

3. When you are in deep shit, keep your mouth shut!
